Happy birthday to me!
Happy birthday dear Colliiiiiiiieee!!!!!!
On July 23rd I had my 17th birthday party. Because I got my permit and went out to dinner with family for my sweet 16, I decided I needed a big party this year. So I planned and planned and planned. And after a week I had a guest list of 125, a food list that would cost roughly $200, and a music playlist long enough to easily last 10 hours.
I talked to my mom and dad, and they said no more than 40 guests. Bummerrrr, right?
I narrowed down my food list to $100, and bought a full-sized volleyball net, badminton rackets, silly string, water balloons, a huge pink bouncy ball, and name tags.
The week of the party, as you know, we got back from a trip to Michigan, then had VBS half a mile down the road. I almost went crazy (ha. Crazy for me...). Monday night my mom and I had a shopping spree at Walmart, where I organized my life on my phone calendar. I was shocked at how busy I was going to be the next 6 days, but I looked forward to the challenge. Nothing makes me happier than being busy.
Thursday night at 10pm I started the great cake project. I made (with Jessie's help) 24 yellow cupcakes and a 11x17 marble cake. I know, right? We finished at 12:00am on the dot.
After almost a week of mowing, cleaning, planning, buying, and caking, I woke up Saturday morning bright and early (9am) and went to work. I played the piano from 10:30 to 2pm (with a small break for talking to my friend and eating lunch), then my dad came, got my friend and I, and took us home.
We got the playlist ready, which took an hour, then we frosted and decorated the cake, got dressed in our party clothes, and started the charcoal (yes, in my little pink and white dress I played with charcoal and fire).
Friends arrived, I plastered them with sweaty hugs and prepared name tags, and the party was started.
In all, 38 people were present. We had hotdogs, pizza, chips, fruit and veggie trays, lemonade, iced tea, juice, and of course, the cupcakes (the cake was later). There was a water balloon war (I had a water balloon squeezed til it burst over my head, a garbage can full of warm water dumped over my head, and a friend throw a water balloon at another friend while pretending to meet them- I still feel horrible about that one), badminton, volleyball, and (drummroll please,) the waterslide, brought (and bought) by an uncle-like friend who could not come. The kids loved it.
So. Here are some of my favorite pics- sorry about the blurriness of some, my old phone's lens was scratched and I didn't know until after...

The moat- if we leave anything sugary out right now, ants will be all over it within half an hour.
So I made a moat. Those darn ants aren't smart enough to have boats yet! |

Beautiful cupcakes! (hope you're not hungry) |

No two cupcakes were the same- the frosting
was always different, if not the decorations. |

My personal favorite- the flower |

Mo-Mo did the 17 with m&ms- I did the sprinkles.
I love sprinkles. |

Our lame-o fire in a tub. It was too dry to have the huge bonfire I wanted. |

Yep, those are fireworks. Not planned, our neighbors had family
visiting from out of state. The perfect finale for this amazing party.
